Every spring, WHHC gets the honor of sending a Hero out to the Kelley family farm in Pennsylvania for a turkey hunt, and it’s always something special. Board member and longtime volunteer Jeff Kelley opens his family farm and gives our Heroes a chance to unwind, connect, and just enjoy being in the outdoors. This year, we flew Hero Jonathan Kirk in from Colorado. From the second Jonathan stepped into camp, he was greeted with open arms, and good company. The next morning, he and (WHHC Guide) Cody Ishman slipped into a spot Cody had been scouting for days, and it wasn’t long before Jonathan dropped his very first wild turkey just after sunrise. But honestly, the best part wasn’t the bird, it was the laughter, the stories, and the time spent in the woods. That kind of peace is hard to come by, and Jonathan left camp recharged and full of gratitude. This is what WHHC is all about. Real connection. Real healing. And giving back to those who’ve already given so much. Big thank you to Jeff Kelley, Cody Ishman, Paul Culley, and everyone who made this hunt one for the books. Can’t wait for the next one. WHHC proudly sent two Heroes, Mick Devlin and Ed Godwin, to T.B. Wilderness Lodge in Hollidaysburg, PA to participate in our Annual Spring Turkey Hunt. They arrived on Wednesday afternoon and were warmly welcomed by the Belinda family. This hunt is about more than just harvesting a turkey and truly represents the heart of WHHC’s mission: healing through the hunt. Despite an unfavorable forecast, the weather held off on both the first and last mornings, giving the Heroes a good window of opportunity. Although neither Hero was able to tag a mature tom, they had several close encounters and gave it their all. More importantly, they shared great food, heartfelt conversations, and a lot of laughter around the lodge. Both Heroes expressed how much they enjoyed their time at T.B. Wilderness Lodge and are excited to stay in touch with the lifelong friends they made during this unforgettable trip. A huge thank you to the Belinda family for their incredible hospitality and support! |
