Meet The Team
100% OF OUR TEAM IS COMPOSED OF SERVICE MEMBERS, VETERANS AND FAMILY MEMBERS OF A MILITARY FAMILY.
WHHC Tasks and Responsibilities Hero Support Specialist My name is Anthony Gray. I was Born and raised in Beaver Falls PA and currently live in Beaver PA with my wonderful wife. I am an avid outdoorsman who loves to be out in the woods or on the water. I served in USAF-PA-ANG for 14 years with 8 years of that time being active duty. I was medically retired after suffering a spine injury. WHHC has given me the chance to give back to our nations heroes by guiding the hunting and fishing trips and also with helping on our fundraising events. Helping our hero's heal by doing something I truly love has helped fill a huge void for myself as well which was missing the camaraderie & brotherhood you have while in the service.

WHHC Tasks and Responsibilities Fundraising Officer My name is Bernard Altman, I am also known as "Bernie". I was born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I went to a Vocational High School for four years to become an electrician and graduated in 1967. Right after graduation I enlisted in the Air Force at the age of 17. I met my wife at my first duty station in California and we got married right before I was shipped out to Vietnam. I was stationed at Bien Hoa Air Force Base also nicknamed "Rocket Alley" due to the everyday rocket and mortar attacks on our base. While in Vietnam my first child was born, after 4 years of military service my wife gave birth to our second child and we moved to Toms River, New Jersey where I worked for the DOD for the next 28 years in Research and Development on satellite communications.
I was chosen by WHHC back in 2022 to attend one of the hunting trips they were offering, and they flew me from Florida to Pennsylvania where I enjoyed a 3-day turkey hunt on the Kelley Farm. After I left the military I began having various health issues and the only thing I found to alleviate my ailments was to be in the outdoors pursuing wild game. After that WHHC hunt I joined the WHHC team and now enjoy giving back to those like me who need to be in the outdoors to heal from the many wounds of combat we have all experienced. WHHC Duties and Responsibilities Hero Support Specialist My name is Devon Hoffman. I was born and raised in Elizabethville, PA and currently reside in Pittsburgh with my wonderful wife and our two German Shepherds. I served nine years active duty Navy, stationed in Groton, Seattle, and Youngstown, Ohio. I am currently serving in the Navy Reserve and will be starting schooling in the Fall.
I am a active volunteer for WHHC, I assist with fundraising and also help with guiding the outdoor adventures WHHC offers. Being a part of WHHC gives me the opportunity to give back to those who have given so much and to also share my love for the outdoors while helping Heroes heal. WHHC Tasks and Responsibilities Program Director My name is Matthew Houston. I am a father of three awesome kids and am a husband to a great woman who I met while serving in the military. I was born and raised in Washington State. I graduated from Bethel High School in 2000. I always wanted to join the military but went to work for a Heating and Air company after graduating. On September 11, 2001 I was in a crawl space under a house and heard my boss yelling and screaming about something, as I crawled out, I was told our homeland was attacked and that we lost a lot of Americans due to a Terrorist attack. In April 2002 I swore into the United States Army and left for basic training. After graduating basic, I was stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas as an Active-Duty Military Police Officer with the 89th MP Brigade, 720th MP Battalion, 64th MP Company. On March 19th 2003, my Battalion was sent to Kuwait in preparation for the war with Iraq, I actually turned 21 years of age in Baghdad on April 8, 2003. After many successful missions I suffered a 50-caliber gunshot wound to my left leg on November 14, 2003. The Army and I tried to repair my leg and after 15 months, 22 surgeries, multiple skin grafts, donating my latissimus flap, and removing bone from my pelvis to rebuild my leg, I developed staph infection that adhered to the titanium cage inside of my shin. My 23rd operation was to remove my leg above the knee. It took me about 8 days post amputation to get fitted for a prosthetic leg and within 3 weeks I was up walking around with a cane. My first child was set to be born a month after my amputation and it gave me the drive to make sure I was able to walk around and be the father my kid deserved. Shortly after the Army found me unfit for my Military Occupation and medically retired me in 2005.
In 2012 I was contacted by WHHC and Jeremy Harbaugh invited me on a deer hunt in Holidaysburg, Pennsylvania and told me that I could also bring my daughter with me to deer camp. After three great days in camp, I was captivated by WHHC's mission and asked how I could help others like me get the same experience WHHC had just given me. This will be my 11th year volunteering for WHHC, and I can honestly say supporting those who have sacrificed so much is the most rewarding thing I have ever done. |
