The weather would not work in our favor and Captain Mike from the Southern Belle Charters would have to cancel the fishing. The Heroes were able to still meet up and enjoy a nice dinner together. Location: Dover International Speedway in Dover, DE Heroes Attended: 8 WHHC Guide: Chris Rupp Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp was invited back to the track for the Dover International Speedway's fall NASCAR race—the Apache Warrior 400. Our wounded combat veterans and their families enjoyed a great day of racing. We would like to give a special thank you to Timothy Horne, Senior Vice President of Dover Downs Gaming & Entertainment, for your continuous support! The WHHC also received the opportunity to set up a booth outside the race track located in the in the USO Delaware Military Appreciation Zone. We were able to meet new Heroes and find new WHHC supporters. The WHHC would like to also thank John Forester and Scott Perry for displaying their patriotic Mustangs at our booth. Heroes Attended: 2 WHHC Guide: Paul Culley Outcome: WHHC sent two Heroes out for a week long Antelope hunt in Montana. This hunt was hosted at the Dream Ranch by our long time supporters, the Tallman family. We would like to congratulate Heroes Ramiro Flores Jr. and Travis Rupert who have successfully filled their 2017 Antelope tags. They both have expressed that this was a trip of a lifetime and wanted to send a special thank you to everyone that made their hunt possible. We would like to thank the Tallman family for their continued support as well as Toby Werk and WHHC BOD Paul Culley for guiding our Heroes this week. Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp sold 1,000 raffle tickets for this gorgeous original oil painting by artist Raymond Agius. We are excited to announce the grand prize winner of raffle ticket #989, Joe Wadlow of Sewickley, PA. Joe is a Vietnam Veteran who served in the Marine Corps infantry. He was selected as the 2016 Western PA Veteran of the Year. Congratulations to Joe on winning the Freedom Tower painting.

Volunteers: The Bayer Family Outcome: The Bayer family volunteered to set up this wonderful booth at the 17th Annual McCandless Community Day celebration. They were able to raise awareness for our cause within the local community as well as raise funds to support future WHHC Outdoor Adventures. A big thank you for your support! Location: Dover, DE Heroes Attended: 2 WHHC Guides: Chris Rupp Outcome: This year's show at Dover AFB celebrate its 75th Anniversary, the U.S. Air Force’s 70th Anniversary, and the City of Dover’s 300th Anniversary! The show offered many historical planes and vehicles on the ground to see as well as plenty of other activities, but the main focus was all the action in the air from WW2 fighters and bombers, parachute teams, and modern jet fighters. The USAF Thunder Birds was the main event, putting on quite the show for our 2 Heroes and their families in attendance. Location: Westport, WA Heroes Attended: 35 WHHC Guide: Matthew Houston Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp wrapped up an entire week of fishing in the beautiful Pacific Northwest. The WHHC was invited back to the Washington Tuna Classic this year and it was one of the best years yet! Over the course of a week, there were 130 seats filled with Combat Veterans. On Saturday August 12th the Wounded Veterans got to experience the Tuna Tournament and finished with enjoying a banquet where they were all Honored guests. We look forward to participating again next year and want to thank all of the Captains and volunteers for donating their time to ensure the Heroes got a trip of a lifetime.

Heroes Attended: 5 WHHC Guides: Chris Bird & George Bayer Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp was invited back to attend a two day fishing trip on Lake Erie with JT Sport Fishing Charters. Our Heroes caught more fish than they ever imagined! Another event full of great memories and new friendships. Date: July 30-31, 2017 Location: Kent Island, MD Heroes Attended: 6 WHHC Guide: Chris Rupp Outcome: The WHHC sent 6 Heroes Rock fishing on the Southern Belle charter boat along with Captain Mike. The Heroes enjoyed a nice dinner the evening before at the Fisherman's Crab Deck and then woke up early the next morning for an exciting day out on the Chesapeake Bay. A big thank you to the Hilton Garden Inn for donating hotel rooms and to Captain Mike for inviting our Heroes and their guests to enjoy a day on the water! Location: Hope Springs Marina in Stafford, VA Heroes Attended: 11 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp Outcome: This year 11 WHHC alumni gathered to represent the Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp at the 7 th Annual Reel American Heroes Foundation Fishing Tournament. The Heroes had a great day of fishing and had the pleasure to meet fishing legend Shaw Grigsby. WHHC alumni Harrison Gordon placed 4th in the tournament.

Our Heroes had a great time enjoying the race festivities. Location: Kent Island, MD Heroes Attended: 6 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp was invited back to Kent Island, MD to fish aboard the Southern Belle Charters for another Memorial Day fishing adventure. Our Heroes had great luck and brought home 17 rock fish. WHHC Pro Staffer Chris Rupp and Hero Daniel Ramil dedicated this event to a great soldier, 1SGT Mark McCowan. Both Chris and Daniel met Mark at the 4th annual Reel American Heroes foundation fishing tournament in Stafford, Virginia. He was part of an elite fishing team from the 3rd Special Forces called the Special Forces Fishing Team. He was a great leader, soldier, father, and role model. He will be missed. Location: Delaware Technical Community College in Dover, DE Heroes Attended: 1 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp Outcome: Thank you to the Capital City Rotary Club, Dover, DE for their great flag display for Memorial Day at the Delaware Technical Community College. WHHC Guide Christopher Rupp visited the display to pay his respects to our fallen Heroes. Location: La Push, WA Heroes Attended: 2 WHHC Guide: Matthew Houston Outcome: The WHHC sent 2 Heroes out for a day of Halibut Fishing with Captain Marcus out of La Push, Washington. The Heroes had an action packed day and brought home a lot of fresh fish.
Location: North Side Sportsmen’s Association in Warrendale, PA Heroes Attended: 13 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp and Christopher Bird Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp hosted the 6th Annual Trap Shoot for Heroes this weekend. We had 13 WHHC alumni in attendance and were able to raise funds to support our upcoming outdoor adventures. A pre-event dinner on May 19th was held at Monte Cello’s restaurant in Wexford, PA for all of our Heroes. After the event, Ditka's Restaurant - Wexford hosted a Patio Party for our Wounded Hero in honor of Armed Forces Day! We had the privilege of hosting a very special guest, Congressman Keith Rothfus. The Congressman took the time out of his day to hear all about the WHHC as well as meet and shake the hands of all of the Wounded Heroes in attendance. A big thank you to our supporters, volunteers, Monte Cello’s Restaurant, Ditka's Restaurant, and Congressman Rothfus for making this a special event!

Wilderness Lodge in Hollidaysburg, PA Heroes Attended: 2 WHHC Guide: Tommy Belinda Outcome: This was our 5th annual Turkey hunt and we would like to thank property owners Tommy and Wendy Belinda for their continued support of the WHHC. The Heroes always have a great time and this year was no exception! Our Heroes gave it their all everyday but the turkeys did not cooperate.
Location: La Push, WA Heroes Attended: 2 WHHC Guide: Matthew Houston Outcome: The WHHC received a call from Marcus Totemeier on Tuesday asking for 2 Heroes to take Halibut Fishing on May 11th. Marcus is a combat injured Veteran himself and offered his boat and services to show the Heroes a good time. Everyone enjoyed a great day on the water and brought home some great fish to share with their families. Thank you Captain Marcus, the Heroes really enjoyed their time fishing with you!
Date: April 28-29, 2017 Location: La Push, WA Heroes Attended: 20 WHHC Guide: Matthew Houston Outcome: The 2017 La Push Lingcod Derby was established by local fishing captains to be a fundraiser for the WHHC. Captain John Thiel from Alpha Angler Charters led this effort to get the local community’s support behind the WHHC. We ended up having 12 boats compete and were able to get 40 Service Members out fishing—19 of the 40 were combat wounded veterans. We look forward to doing more of these events in the future and thank all participants, donors, captains, and volunteers for making this event a success.

Date: April 22, 2017 Location: La Push, WA Heroes Attended: 1 WHHC Guide: Matthew Houston Outcome: The WHHC sent a combat Wounded Hero on an offshore trophy Lingcod trip with Alpha Angler Charters. Our Hero had a trip of a lifetime and got some much needed healing time on the ocean. Thank you to Alpha Anglers for filling the open slot with a WHHC veteran.
Date: March 10-11, 2017 Location: Alpine Hunting & Fishing Club in Bridgeville, PA Heroes Attended: 5 WHHC Guides: Christopher Bird & Adam Hofmeister Outcome: The snow poured down for a second year in a row, but it did not keep our Heroes out of the fields. Our Heroes had a blast working with the dogs to harvest their pheasants. Thank you to the Alpine Hunting & Fishing Club for hosting another wonderful event and to everyone who made this hunt possible.
Location: Magnolia, DE Heroes Attended: 4 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp Outcome: The WHHC was proud to host another successful goose hunt in Magnolia, DE. As the heroes headed to their blinds and after getting setup they were able to harvest five Canadian Geese within the first twenty minutes. As the morning continued it began to slow down right before lunch so they ended their successful hunt. After dressing their harvest they made their way to the Magnolia Restaurant for lunch and laughs.
Location: Magnolia, DE Heroes Attended: 3 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp Outcome: The Wounded Heroes Hunting Camp was proud to host a phenomenal snow goose hunt in Magnolia, Delaware. This was a special hunt because we were able to bring out a special guest, Eagle Scout Spencer B., to help out on the wounded veteran hunt. By joining us, Spencer earned his final Eagle badge. The Heroes were able to bag over 40 birds by 10 o'clock. Afterwards our Heroes were able to learn how to properly clean the birds. Our Heroes left with memories and friendships that will last a lifetime!
Location: Rock Hall, MD Heroes Attended: 5 WHHC Guide: Christopher Rupp Outcome: Our heroes battled heavy snow while in search for ducks and geese in the grey skies. The weather got the best of our Heroes. The hunt was called at noon with no harvest and the Heroes enjoyed lunch to get warm after a cold morning. In the end, the Heroes gained new friendships and new found memories. |
